The U.S. is accusing Marika Tolz, a 20-year veteran of South Florida’s Chapter 7 trustee panel, of stealing millions from bankruptcy estates and receiverships for her own personal use.
Two U.S. attorneys Thursday signed off on a lawsuit against Tolz, a former Chapter 7 trustee and court-appointed receiver they say misappropriated $16 million from March 2003 to May 2010, when she resigned.
Neither Tolz nor her attorney, Ben Kuehne, could be reached by Bankrutcy Beat for comment Friday. But Kuehne told the South Florida Business Journal that Tolz intends to plead guilty to the charges, according to a story published Friday.
Tolz “acknowledges her errors and fully anticipates that all funds will be fully reimburse or restitution made,” Kuehne said in an interview with the local publication. “She will be accepting full responsibility for her conduct.”
